Sustainability
"Sustainability is at the heart of our business, balancing our environmental, social, and economic impacts."
In line with our parent company Marshalls PLC, sustainability is at the heart of our business, balancing our environmental, social, and economic impacts. Achieving our goal of sustainability involves judging the long term merits of our business decisions against this triple bottom line:
- Effective protection of the environment
- Social progress which recognises the needs of everyone
- Maintenance of stable levels of economic growth
Environment
We are committed to reducing the amount of carbon produced as a result of our operations. Our targets in waste reduction, recycling and re-use ensure we continue to achieve significant, measurable reductions year on year.
Social
We work closely with the communities in which we operate to support and help deliver constructive projects in a number of initiatives including education and local activities.
Economic
Economic sustainability is built upon the way we do business. All of our sites have either already received accreditation for, or are actively working towards accreditation for ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001: 2004 and OHSAS 18001:1999.
Biodiversity
Stancliffe Stone strives to conserve natural habitats and to create additional areas of wildlife value wherever possible. Work towards achieving registration to the Wildlife Trusts' Biodiversity Benchmark is progressing. We also recognise the need for sympathetic restoration and after use of quarry sites, taking into account the character of the local environment and concerns of the community within these plans.
