British Natural Stone Walling
Marshalls Stancliffe Stones provides a range of British Dimensional Sandstone and Limestone natural stone walling which is used for a wide range of building applications, from residential and commercial schemes to new builds, extensions and renovation projects.
We offer both Ashlar and Traditional natural stone walling styles as part of our extensive range of products as well as bespoke masonry with special textured finishes.
Traditional walling has three distinct finishes:
Pitched Face Walling
Historically the most common finish for use in residential and commercial developments throughout the Northern half of the British Isles. Originally produced by hand, it is now produced using automated processing lines.
Split Face Walling
Split Face natural stone walling has a lesser-pronounced, flatter texture leaving a raw cropped face on the stone. Due to the intrinsic nature of the sedimentary rocks, it is common for the stone to split with either a convex or concaved face, which can result in some variation of bed width. Where this is inappropriate, further dressing of the stone should be specified.
Tumbled Walling / Cottage Walling
Ideal for projects that have local planning requirements in sensitive locations. An additional tumbling process after the stone has been cropped creates a stone with eroded arises, but still has sawn beds to allow for easy construction.
Ashlar natural stone walling is for projects that require an ascetically appealing external leaf, where a smooth walling finish is specified.
We recommend that clients see a sample of the stone prior to ordering, as stone being a natural product will vary significantly in colour and texture within the same range of stones.
