STONE DESCRIPTION:

Locharbriggs is a Permian sandstone from the Locharbriggs Quarry in Dumfries, Scotland. Quarried since the 18th century, this pink to red medium grained sandstone is widely used across Scotland and England for walling and traditional and contemporary cladding and masonry styles.

With extensive reserves readily available, Locharbriggs is perfect for all scale of projects: large and small.

PROJECT SUMMARY:

The Challenge:

To design a unique development which incorporates contemporary living space, luxury apartments, penthouses, retail space and private onsite parking. To provide its residents with a wonderful, secure environment in which to make the most of living in Manchester’s vibrant city centre.

The Solution:

A 25-story residential tower block known locally as ‘The Slot’ because the building has been literally slotted between the New International Convention Centre and the grade-II listed Great Northern Railway Warehouse Complex. This build features a glazed plaza on top of a plinth section of Locharbriggs red sandstone handset ashlar cladding, which forms a solid base to the tower.

For generations red sandstone has been a building stone of choice within the Manchester area. Locharbriggs red sandstone is a popular choice for new builds within the city limits.
