NATURAL STONE WALLING
Stancliffe is the largest producer of natural, indigenous dimensional stone and as part of their portfolio the company offer both ashlar and traditional natural stone walling as part of their range of products.
Ashlar natural stone walling is for projects that require an ascetically appealing smooth faced finish but are on a price sensitive budget. Standard ashlar natural stone walling is available in Stanton Moor, Stoke Hall and Locharbriggs.
On the traditional natural stone walling Stancliffe stone offer the following traditional stone types and walling styles as standard items, but please be aware that the availability of finishes varies according to stone type; Stanton Moor, Stoke Hall,Doddington,High Nick, Locharbriggs, St Bees and Plumpton Red Lazonby. We recommend that clients see a sample of the stone prior to ordering as stone being a natural product will vary significantly in colour and texture within the same range of stones.
There are three traditional natural stone walling styles – pitched face, split face and cottage. Pitched face is historically a method of flattening stone for use in a wide range of building, the pitched face has now become the most common finish for use in residential and commercial developments throughout the Northern half of the British Isles. Split face has a lesser-pronounced, flatter texture as the stone is processed through a cropping machine to leave a raw face. Cottage natural stone walling is ideal for when projects have local planning requirements in sensitive locations which is where Stancliffe can provide the ideal solution. An additional tumbling process after the stone has been cropped creates a stone with eroded arrises, but still has sawn beds to allow for easy construction.
