NATURAL STONE CASE STUDY - WESTFIELD FOLK HOUSE - YOUNG PEOPLES CENTRE MANSFIELD

Natural Stone Case Study-Young Peoples Centre-Mansfield

STONE DESCRIPTION:

A beautiful Derbyshire Carboniferous sandstone which has been used widely across the UK for all scale of projects – from major prestigious city centre schemes to residential developments and private homes. Stanton Moor sandstone is also specified in Scotland on a regular basis providing a suitable match to Scottish blonde sandstones which are on longer available.

Extracted from Dale View quarry, Matlock, Stanton Moor pink sandstone is very much part of our architectural heritage with quarry records dating back from 1897. The Striking colouration of Stanton Moor sandstone features a buff base with brown, gold and wild pink variation, adding depth and interest to both traditional and contemporary building designs. Extensive reserves are readily available.

PROJECT SUMMARY:

A state-of-the-art extension transforming a Grade II listed building on Westfield Lane Mansfield which dates from the 1830s into one of the most modern and innovative youth facilities in the country.

THE BUILD SOLUTION:

Minimising any environmental impact on the area, the new extension has been designed to complement the existing building with the combination of the old and new architecture. Using Stanton Moor Pink sandstone as the prefect stone match - traditional ashlar walling and masonry and split faced walling has been used to give the new exterior build the appearance of continuation to the Grade II listed building, with the inside displaying modern architecture. This very successful new extension has transformed this conservation project into a world-class ‘super’ youth centre which will be open seven days a week for young people in the heart of Mansfield.
