NATURAL STONE CASE STUDY - WELLBAR HOUSE - NEWCASTLE

Natural Stone Case Study-Wellbar House-Newcastle

STONE DESCRIPTION:

Fletcher Bank sandstone is a distinctive fine to medium grained sandstone from the Millstone Grit series of Carboniferous age. The stone is extracted from the Fletcher Bank Quarry, Lancashire.

The random buff to grey colour of our Fletcher Bank Sandstone is particularly striking when used for large scale cladding projects, providing a high quality exterior finish.

PROJECT SUMMARY:

Standing in the heart of Newcastle next to St. James’s Park football stadium overlooking Gallowgate, the site is also bound to St. Andrews Street to the north and west and connects east onto Strawberry Lane. The scheme has been designed to contain mostly offices with retail at ground level.

THE BUILD SOLUTION:

The design of the scheme features reflective glass framed in a spectacular rectangle of Fletcher Bank ashlar sandstone cladding on each side of the building, above two recessed lower levels and topped by set back upper floors, making this a ‘must see development’.
