STONE DESCRIPTION:

Beautiful Derbyshire carboniferous sandstone, which has been used widely across the UK for all scale of projects – from major prestigious city centre developments to commercial, residential and new build education facilities.

Stanton Moor buff sandstone and Stanton Moor pink sandstone are fine to medium grained sandstones extracted from Dale View Quarry, Stanton-by-Dale, Derbyshire. The striking colour of Stanton Moor sandstone features a buff base with brown, gold and wild pink variation, adding depth and interest to both traditional and contemporary building designs. Extensive reserves allow selection from either Buff of Pink colour options.

PROJECT SUMMARY:

Following the demolition of existing inner city 1960s shopping complex in York city centre, conservation/pedestrian area. The brief was to construct a four storey prime retail redevelopment incorporating shop unites at ground level, and to include 13 high specification luxury apartments at first and second floor level.

THE BUILD SOLUTION:

The design of this modern retail space needed to quickly blend in with the adjoining listed properties situated on either side. Stanton Moor sandstone was coincided to be the prefect match to the existing builds surrounding the new development. The front elevation was specifically designed to bring the new build forward, allowing the redevelopment to stand inline with the existing retail premises.

A fast track site program was deemed the best procurement route bearing in mind the project's location. Detailed drawings of the stones for each panel had to be produced before being sent to Stancliffe's masonry department for processing. To produce the required pre cast units stone ashlar is laid into specially designed carcass moulds and concrete is poured onto the back of the stone and left to cure. Once completed, each panel is hung directly onto a panellised rail system already built on site, allowing the front elevation to be completed quickly and efficiently.
