Natural Stone Case Study-MoldGreen Community Primary School-Huddersfield

STONE DESCRIPTION:

Beautiful Derbyshire carboniferous sandstone, which has been used widely across the UK for all scale of projects – from major prestigious city centre developments to commercial, residential and new build education facilities.

This fine to medium grained sandstone is extracted from Dale View Quarry, Stanton-in-Peak, Derbyshire. The striking colour of Stanton Moor buff sandstone features a buff base with brown, gold and wild pink variation, adding depth and interest to both traditional and contemporary building designs. Extensive reserves allow selection from either Buff of Pink colour options.

PROJECT SUMMARY:

Kirklees Metropolitan Council’s Design and Property Services needed to create a realistic architectural approach to the development of a new build education facility at Moldgreen, Huddersfield. The challenge was to provide 380 pupils and 50 staff with a modern airy working space.

THE BUILD SOLUTION:

Issues of sustainability, sensitive planning and attention to detail led the team from Kirklees Design and Property Services to design a mix of low environmental impact buildings, aimed at minimising any environmental impact on the area.

Stancliffe's standard product range provided a creative yet bespoke solution. Using a mix of standard products – 140 mm course heights with ashlar and split face walling finishes incorporated into this project ensures this new build education facility blends seamlessly into the area.
