Natural Stone Case Study-Harris Boys Academy-London

STONE DESCRIPTION:

Fletcher Bank sandstone is a distinctive fine to medium grained sandstone from the Millstone Grit series of Carboniferous age. The stone is extracted from the Fletcher Bank Quarry, Lancashire.

The random buff to grey colour of Fletcher Bank Brown Sandstone is particularly striking when used for large scale cladding projects, providing a high quality exterior finish.

PROJECT SUMMARY:

Following the demolition of former Waverly Lower Secondary School. The new Boy’s Academy on Peckham Rye, London has been designed to create a unique learning environment for the benefit of generations of South London boys.

THE BUILD SOLUTION:

Ashlar cladding on precast provides the high quality exterior finish required for the build, giving this contemporary design a resilient natural sandstone façade.

The variation of colours which runs throughout Fletcher Bank sandstone demonstrates the characteristics needed for new builds to blend into the existing urban surroundings.
