NATURAL STONE CASE STUDY - ENFIELD LIBRARY - LONDON

Natural Stone Case Study-Enfield Library-London

STONE DESCRIPTION:

Creeton is an oosparite limestone form the Creeton Quarry at Little Bytham, Grantham, Lincolnshire. Stone is extracted from three distinct beds: Banded, Hard White and Silverbed, all offering a slightly different white, cream, honey through to beige colour variation.

Creeton limestone is characterized by clusters of shell fossil within its fine to medium grained structure.

PROJECT SUMMARY:

A key strand of Enfield’s Library strategy was to relocate poorly sited and therefore less well-used libraries into a shopping area where there was evidence that usage would increase and new customers will be attracted to the services a library provides.

THE BUILD SOLUTION:

Enfield’s new flagship library is a contemporary limestone clad modern building. This cleverly designed building houses large eye-catching; coats of arms, dates and words cut out of Creeton limestone panels - hand finished by Stancliffe’s skilled masons. These large visually impressive limestone panels which sit proudly across the Library’s exterior are a particularly good example of contemporary stone cutting.
