The external use of the Locharbriggs Red Sandstone was load-bearing with fine jointing for the walling elements. The stones were grouted in place to give the monolithic appearance desired by the designers. The fenestration of the Rose window in particular pays testament to the team from Linford Bridgeman the principal stone contractor. The tracery work on the roof elevation is also very impressive. Judge’s comment: "The refinement in the detailing of the stonework makes this very impressive addition to the Cathedral. The new rose window is a particularly good example of contemporary stone cutting".Catch up on other Latest Natural Stone News from Stancliffe Stone , or read more about Locharbriggs Red Sandstone.
